Dear Friends,

After months of distancing, and for some, near isolation, we are grateful to be inviting you to the 42nd Anniversary Dinner of the Young Israel of Jamaica Estates on Thursday, June 24, 2021.

We will come together to celebrate and honor the resourcefulness, responsiveness, and resilience of our community as well as the many individuals who together weaved a tapestry of support for us all.

It is also our privilege to recognize two outstanding YIJE couples who have distinguished themselves over many years and came forward in a unique way during this year of great challenge. The Community Service Award will be presented to Rhonda and Hilton Blachman and Tzipporah and Moshe Boim. Both the Blachmans and the Boims have contributed their time and talents to YIJE over the years.

Rhonda and Hilton Blachman have lived in Jamaica Estates for more than 30 years, dedicating a community Sefer Torah at a time when one was desperately needed, volunteering as a Hatzalah member and serving as House chair for more than a decade, caring for and maintaining our shul building.

Tzipporah and Moshe Boim each work quietly behind the scenes managing both the Mayan Sara Mikve as well as finances and Human resources. They have served on the Executive committee as treasurer and recording secretary respectively.

Most recently, both families stepped up and opened their homes to our additional Minyanim for the high Holidays last fall and accommodating hundreds of YIJE members, who might otherwise not have been able to attend a Yom Tov minyan in the midst of the pandemic. It is our honor to recognize these couples for both their recent and past voluntary service to our community.

We will also express a special Hakarat Hatov to Zach Herskowitz in recognition of his six years of outstanding service as Director of the Sara Domb Youth Department. During this time, Zach has continued YIJE’s tradition of outstanding and creative youth programming serving our own youth and many beyond the borders of our community.

We invite you to join us for an outdoor dinner and program just 15 miles from Jamaica Estates at the beautiful Greentree Country Club Waterfront Estate in New Rochelle on June 24th. Your presence will enhance the evening, add to the success of the dinner and celebrate our community as we once again come together under one tent.
