Rabbi Yosef Sharbat - Rabbinic Candidate

Rabbi Yosef Sharbat serves as the Associate Rabbi and Sephardic Rav of Congregation Ahawas Achim Bnei Jacob and David (AABJD) in West Orange, NJ. His warm personality, combined with his tremendous energy and charisma draws large crowds to shiurim, and is able to connect to all backgrounds and ages.
Rabbi Sharbat, a Jamaica Estates native, received Rabbinic ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University and also from Rabbi Eliyahu Ben-Chaim, which has allowed him to have a unique perspective into both Sephardi and Ashkenazi halacha and minhagim. He also holds a Master's Degree in Secondary Jewish Education from the Azrieli Graduate School of Yeshiva University. Rabbi Sharbat graduated with honors and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Jewish Studies from Yeshiva College where he was also the recipient of The Rabbi Judah Feinerman Memorial Award for Excellence in Talmud and the Maybaum Sephardic Fellowship. He studied for two years in Yeshivat Hakotel. He is a graduate of the DRS Yeshiva High School for Boys and Yeshiva Tifereth Moshe.
Rabbi Sharbat is deeply involved in the Essex County Community. He is a member of the Vaad Harabanim of MetroWest, on the rabbinic board of the Essex County Mikvah and a rabbinic advisor to the West Orange Eruv. He teaches Tanach to middle school students at the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy and to high school students at the Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School.
Rabbi Sharbat is married to Batya. Hailing from Monsey, NY, she graduated with honors and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Stern College for Women. She is a beloved middle school Tanach teacher at the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy and creates meaningful relationships with her students. Batya plays an active role as Rebbetzin in the West Orange community. She is on the sisterhood committee, early childhood committee, and runs a popular yearlong bat mitzvah program. She serves as a resource to many women in the community and is a kallah teacher for brides in the tri-state area.
They are the proud parents of Yael (10), Moshe (7), Leora (5) and Nava (2).
